Video Marketing: Tips to create videos without a fancy camera or expensive agency

Video Marketing - you’ve heard the term a few 100 times but what does it actually entail?

According to Wikipedia, “video marketing is a type of content marketing and advertising in which business create 30 seconds to 5-minute videos about specific topics. The videos are then uploaded to various video sharing websites like YouTube for distribution and exposure.“ So, what does that mean for small businesses without the budget to buy fancy video equipment or hire an overpriced agency? It is a lot simpler than you think!

Let’s get down to it. First, I want to give you a few tips to creating quality video right from your cell phone (regardless if you have a iPhone or an Android) and then I am going to give you some strategy tips to make your videos compelling and allow you to become a storyteller with your content. These tricks are going to save you time, money and resources - you can’t go wrong!

  1. Use the Rule of Thirds

  2. Take advantage of natural lighting

  3. Film horizontally, not vertically

  4. Invest in a microphone for quality sound, like this one

  5. Download free video editing apps to slice and dice your videos, like VideoShow

Now that you know how to shoot quality videos - let’s talk strategy. You can’t just create videos whenever you feel like it and expect it to stick. There is a science to it. Every business has their own strategy according to their industry, their audience and their goals. Here are my tips to building out that strategy:

1) Create a campaign around your product/service

  1. Put together a message you want to convey and a goal you want to accomplish

  2. Identify your Call to Action (CTA)

  3. Create video and still photography around this theme

  4. Schedule the content according to relevancy

2) Have both long and short form videos

3) Keep your branding consistent (color scheme, logo, voice, etc.)

4) Don’t over promote your brand - add some light. soft sell content as well

5) Lastly, and most importantly, be AUTHENTIC-LY YOU

There you have it. Now you have no excuse for not creating beautiful, stand-out video content for your business. REMEMBER - this is a work in progress, you will make some crappy videos at first but once you find what works for your business, it’ll be a breeze. You have the tools at your fingertips that will help you tell your brand story in the most interactive way. No fancy camera equipment and no expensive creative agency - just your phone and a vision! Go on, it’s time to create!

How to Build Relationships on Social Media That Will Help Grow Your Brand

Relationships are those things that most people want but don't know how to find the right ones! No, I'm not talking about single people looking for love on a dating app.  I am talking about business relationships and online connections!

Why are these type of relationships important for the growth of your business? They put a face to your brand, create opportunity and can help gain exposure for your brand, which, in turn, brings customers!

So, how do you do this?  How do you know which connections are going to help your company reach its goals online and in the non-virtual world?

1) On Facebook, Join Groups and CONVERSE, don't sell

2) On Twitter, Join Chats and ASK QUESTIONS, don't focus on knowing all the answers, be a student

3) On Instagram, WATCH your audience's habits, questions and interests, COMMENT and REPOST to show you know who your audience is and that you are there to engage and help!

4) On LinkedIn,  JOIN industry and interest groups and POST relevant content on your feed that will raise questions and create answers!

Simple! How to Avoid Bad Visuals on Your Social Media Profiles

Looks are definitely not everything but on social media, the look of your profile is definitely important!

I often see a lot of small businesses with all the social media channels but when you scroll down their pages its all cheesy stock photos from Google or other sources.  I also see a lot of blurry images, poor design and messy text.  This all needs to stop! Now, I'm not the social media po-po by any means but I like to see businesses succeed and in this day and age, it all starts with their online presence.

"But, I don't have the time or resources to post quality photos on a weekly basis!"

Every business is busy but social media marketing needs to be on the top of your priority list! You don't need to hire a professional photographer or have a film crew follow you around all day, you just need to be creative!  I am going to give you a list of things to try when you are posting on your pages that will draw the eyes of your ideal customer!

1) Utilize User Generated Content - if any of your past customers posted a photo and tagged you or used your hashtag, REPOST IT!  This is a good way to show your appreciation to your customer and engages other potential customers!

2) Repost popular content - Look back at your posts that people reacted to the most!  Change it up a little and post away!

3) Use easy graphic design software to make cool flyers - I used Canva to create graphics for any events I am involved in, blog posts I write or just fun quotes/fun facts!

4) Pay attention to holidays, trends and events - This is a great way to relate to others while still remaining relevant in your industry!

5) Have fun with personal posts from time to time - Make your pages more humanized and less automated. Post photos of your staff, your dog, lunch at the office, etc.  This is a great way to make your audience feel like a part of the team.

Now that you have some non-boring ways to post on your business' social media pages, you are on your way to endless opportunities!  Close Google Images and start thinking deeper!  What does your audience talk most about? What big companies do they follow?  What are their online behaviors?  Once you know these answers, you will be able to create lively content that will bring more followers, more customers and more $$$$$!

You're welcome.
